§ 1-36. Elected officers.

(a)

The elected officers of the town shall be a mayor and six councilmembers. The mayor and councilmembers shall constitute the council and shall continue in office until their successors are elected and qualified.

(b)

The term of office of the mayor and councilmembers shall be four years. Terms shall be staggered so that four councilmembers are elected at one election and two are elected the following election. The term of office for the mayor elected in 2009 shall terminate when his successor assumes office following the 2012 general election. The terms of office for councilmembers elected in 2009 and 2011 shall terminate when their successors assume office following the 2012 and 2014 general elections, respectively.

(c)

A candidate shall not run for both mayor and councilmember at the same election.
