§ 1-38. Filling of council vacancies.

The council shall fill a council vacancy by appointment until the next regularly scheduled council election if the vacancy occurs more than 30 days before the nomination petition deadline. If the vacancy occurs 30 days or less before the nomination petition deadline, the councilmember appointed to fill the vacancy shall serve for the unexpired term. The councilmember appointed shall be a qualified elector in the town and shall meet the qualifications set forth in section 26-1.
